Completely Amazing Peru travel, so far!

Pyramid walls as viewed from the outside of the fence

I had been so excited and done so much research about the Amazon Basin, that I was completely surprised by our stopover point; Lima, Peru. From the beach to the architecture, and then there’s the pyramid.

The Pyramid in Lima

What? Where did a pyramid come from? Was our initial response, so we had to go check it out. We walked to the pyramid, Huaca Pucllana, but unfortunately got there while it was closed. I would suggest visiting it though, it’s pretty amazing, even from outside the fence.

Miraflores, a great district for sights

Ceviche for dinner at a local restaurant.

For our jaunt around Lima, we stayed in the Miraflores area, and there was plenty to see. We took a taxi to one of the plazas and started walking back to our hostel from there.

We’ve been trying to avoid American food, but I get hungry more often than Rebecca and I just needed a morning snack. So, I have to admit I went to McDonald’s. Some chicken McNuggets were just what I needed. We’ve also seen Starbuck’s here, but we’ll stick to the local cafes. We went to dinner at a local restaurant near a plaza.

Be In the Know for Peru Travel: Be prepared for the onslaught of callers. You can’t walk by a restaurant here without someone asking you to come in and try their food. It felt a bit like walking through a used car lot with car salesman everywhere, but I got used to it after awhile. We finally gave in and we weren’t sorry – tasty food!

Hostel is Okay but Not the Best

Our hostel was in an interesting location, more of a local’s area and we liked that. Every time we’d walk down the road to head to a new destination, the local barber would greet us, and we were close to a lot of things to see. However, our hostel, the Royal Backpacker Dolce Vita is a pay for what you get for kind of place (cheap beds for a cheap price).

Beautiful architecture

The beds we had were placed in more of a hallway, so people in the other dorm would have to go through our space to get to theirs. And breakfast wasn’t enough for me, but it was a good start: juice, coffee, bread, and fruit. Tonight we asked for a fan because we were so hot – no air movement. I had the impression that Jesus ran out to get one from a store. So that was really nice of him. If you need an inexpensive place to stay – this is it for $7 a night in a dorm (or hallway – whichever way you look at it).

We have one more day here, then it’s on to the humid, Tambopata River and Amazon Basin! I think Peru travel is going to be another fun piece of our adventure.
