Kindle Vella is the new platform from Amazon. How is it different? Writers release ‘episodes’ or chapters one at a time. Readers get to read the first few episodes for free then turn over tokens for subsequent episodes.

The good news is you don’t need a Kindle to read the stories.

If you check out stories on Kindle Vella and find something you enjoy, make sure to select the “follow” button for the story.

And, to help out your favorite authors, select the thumbs up at the end of each episode!

Here are a couple of stories to get you started.

Sci Fi: R. Cade: R. Cade is an android who awakens to a smashed hip, battery power problems, and a coolant leak after an explosion at Sandia Labs kills over 75% of the human population. His purpose is to find his companion, Marshall, who is probably in the human safety zone. When no outsiders are allowed inside the safety zone, how will R.Cade reunite with Marshall? Along the way, R. Cade gets help from the other nonbiological life forms he encounters.

Non-Fiction: Finding Balance: A memoir. At first glance, this idea seems ludicrous. A woman in her forties with no knowledge of Spanish, no experience backpacking through a country, and an avid over packer going on a journey through Costa Rica, Panama, and Peru. And, taking her best friend along who also speaks no Spanish. Would it work? Would we survive?

LGBTQ Sci Fi: 1529. Darah is a master thief who roams the galaxy taking solo jobs to support her struggling family. After a job goes south, she finds herself in debt to a famous politician and certified jerk. He doesn’t need the money, but he does have a need for someone with her skills. She just wants to go home to her girlfriend and their cute cat, but with so many demands on her time, does she even have time for romance?

Cozy Mystery: Beach Blanket Murders. I’m the personal assistant for Mimi LaFleur, who played America’s favorite amateur sleuth on TV. The septuagenarian party animal never met a man or cliche that she didn’t take to like a duck to water. I wonder why my boss drags me to an ocean-front house in Manhattan Beach for a vacay — until I discover that a Hollywood hunk is our new neighbor. After an all-night rager, the police suspect Mimi of murdering the star! To save my job, I must add beating a murder rap to my list of duties.
