I’ve getting this short story writing down! This fun story started as an NYC Midnight flash fiction challenge story. Only 1,000 words allowed, and it had to have a green room, a dispenser, and it had to be a mystery.
The challenge was hard, but I loved how it made me try different genres and mix things I might never think of. For some reason, as soon as I saw dispenser I thought of a Pez dispenser. Must have been from all that candy I ate as a kid. I submitted it to the challenge and I’ll hear sometime tonight how it did. Fingers crossed!
Then I took the flash fiction and used it in the last Short Storyathon as my project. I lengthened it, developed more character and story, and took my reviewers information to make it a better story.
After publishing, I was so honored and surprised to see it hit best selling in mystery short reads!
The Maltese Pez Dispenser Follows female PI Stone Smith. Stone is a Private Investigator in the heart of New York City. She finds the body of her client in plain sight. However, she’ll have to find the diamonds hidden somewhere in a diner among the Pez dispensers before her time runs out.
