I was recently honored with an amazing review from Susan Sewell of Reader’s Favorite, so I think it’s safe to say, if you’re looking for a thriller, this is one of the books to read 2020. It’s also safe to say that the review totally made me cry because I was so surprised by this review.
The short version is “This novel is brilliantly written, with compelling characters and a dynamic, action-filled plot. Although this is the second book in the series, it did very well as a standalone.”
Full Review
A skinwalker is running loose on a Navajo Reservation in the breathtaking adventure novel, Gamble of the Gods (Idol Makers Book 2) by Sonja Dewing. Freelance software developer AJ Bluehorse wants life to be the way it was before her insane trip through the Amazon jungle. There, AJ met Viracocha, the Incan god, and before he died, he transferred his powers to her. However, the transference left her with unwanted side-effects. With magical powers pulsing through her body, flames erupt from her hands whenever she gets agitated. Another result is vivid dreaming. This morning AJ wakened from a nightmare in which she witnesses a coyote with human eyes murdering a young woman. Later, when her cousin calls and asks her to do a job at the reservation casino, AJ wonders if her dream is real. En route to New Mexico, two Dine legends approach her and indicate she will be facing a monster. Can AJ get enough of her powers under control to defeat an evil beast? Or will she fail and be his next victim?
Delving into Navajo legends, Gamble of the Gods (Idol Makers Book 2) by Sonja Dewing is a thrilling mystery novel. The stunning story begins with a heart-stopping scene, and the action continues throughout. Set in New Mexico, the landscape creates striking backdrops, setting the mood of the story. This novel is brilliantly written, with compelling characters and a dynamic, action-filled plot. Although this is the second book in the series, it did very well as a standalone. The history of the characters smoothly transfers from the first book into this one flawlessly. AJ’s and Fredrick’s characters are likable and I am looking forward to meeting them again in the next installment. Everyone who loves adventure, mystery, and legend wrapped up in one story will not want to miss this series!
