I asked my instructor if I should get a smaller board if I ever try surfing again. He shook his head. Yoda knows I’m not ready for that yet.

Last day in Playa Dominical

Before our final surf lesson with our instructor “Yoda”, real name Ezequiel, we went on a little excursion and spied a humped back whale with her young. We had a choice to stay out longer, but we didn’t want to make Yoda wait!

We attempted to surf for an hour; I say attempt as that was what it could be called. I was able to stand and steer a little, but Yoda is not impressed. Then it was time to get our showers and finish packing.

Stranger things have happened…

Something strange in my bed

Our beds were made when we got back to our room.  (I guess the maid doesn’t know we won’t be staying).  Someone had put this strange thing on my bed. It was two towels in sort of a flower motif, with bits of pink fuzzy plant bits scattered on it. Weird, huh? I suspect it might have been the young man who works here, who keeps asking me to meet him at the beach at sunset.

The drive to San Jose, Costa Rica

Who’d have thought caiman and cows could
hang out together.

The drive took us a couple of hours, but our driver, Yamil from Costa Rica Surf School was awesome. He stopped so we could finally see some caiman. They hang out under a bridge. Not exactly how I had hoped to see one, but it will do this time around.

Final night in San Jose, Costa Rica

At the airport, about to say goodbye
to Costa Rica

Then we stayed one night in the Hostel Casa Del Parque. We had made reservations for a private room and got here to find they didn’t have it so they put us in the large, upstairs dorm.  It was okay, but I felt bad the next morning, making so much noise to get downstairs for the cab. I probably woke half the room.

Although you only see “36” days on this blog, it was much longer than that. I’ve squeezed together days and left out others where we just took it easy. I would have to call these last 7 weeks the best of my life. I can only imagine life getting better from here.  : )
